RICHARD GODDARD`S WILL.         Even after having sight of the original document I was still unable to fully transcribe the text as some of the lettering proved extremely difficult to interpret. Unfortunately this has meant that I have been  obliged to omit certain key words, but I considered it worth printing out anyway.?

 This is a photo copy of Richard Goddards Will dated 14Th. January 1736. Richard was to die six days later.

 

 

         In the name of God & man  I  Richard goddard of Kirkby Mallory being sick of body but of sound mind and memory do make my last will & testament as follows. First I bequeath my soul to god ---- and my body to the earth from where it was taken and to be decently interned in eternity and after all my lawful debts be paid and ------- I give unto my daughter Ann Goddard ten pounds to be paid one year after my death. To whom I give unto my son Thomas one -------? of my close. To whom I give to my son Wm. Goddard my ---- of ----? To whom I give my daughter Mary one shilling.  to whom I give to my son Thomas one shilling. To whom I give to my son Richard one shilling.  To whom I give to my son John Goddard my ------ ? chamber my Mu--d--- and my --ll--b-? and I make my son Joseph --ll- and to be my executor of this my last will and testament renouncing all other wills ---- my hand and seal this fourteenth day of

January anno Domini 1736:7

       Now we have two Mary Goddards, ( see previous page) cousins, born approximately one year apart. 

One Mary was born to  Joseph & Elizabeth,  baptised 13/ 9/ 1748, and the other Mary born to John & Ann, baptised 12/ 9/ 1747.   They were both  married at  Kirkby Mallory. The church records show that ............

Mary Goddard married John Wright ( widower) of Higham on the 24/ 1/ 1768.  

    Mary Goddard married Thomas Belcher of Stapleton on the 26/ 8/ 1767


    

Ann Goddard Married Joshua Lakin of Market Bosworth on the 5/ 10/ 1771 at Kirkby Mallory

  The   Marriage Certificate of William Goddard and Mary Lowe  dated 20th. of November 1856              

Sadly Mary died in 1910 in the Union Workhouse , Market Bosworth     

 

William Goddard aged 25. and  Mary Lowe aged22  Married in the Registry Office in Leicester.

Residence at the time of their marriage, for both is given as Coach and Horses yard, Humberstone Gate Leicester.

Fathers names given as..... Richard Goddard (deceased)

       The 1891 census shows that Richard has married and is living in "New Row " Kirkby Mallory

  The 1851 census shows Thomas, age 27 living at Kirkby Mallory with wife Sarah and son Thomas, also listed in the household is Phoebe Mason aged 8.... ? There is no mention of the family in the following 1861, 1871 or 1881 census returns for Kirkby.   However Thomas does turns up again in the 1891 census, widowed, living in "New Row"  Kirkby Mallory   together with Charles, Mary and niece Sarah Bacon ?

  The 1871 and 1881 census returns for Enderby show that Annie Elizabeth Goddard was employed as House and Parlour Maid at

"Penn Craig" the managers house for the nearby quarry and estate.

William and Amos both served in the First World War. Sadly William was killed in action on the 9th. August 1917.

The above illustrations show two of several postcards sent by William, from France to the family back in Kirby Muxloe.        The brief text inside reads.......
