The
family first appeared in Kirkby Mallory with an entry in the 1841
census, the document informs that they originated from Earl Shilton.
As mentioned elsewhere, Catherine married John Crowson and emigrated
to America in 1857 with brother John. Mary married Uriah Alliford
of St. Johns, Leicester on the 1 / 1 / 1861. The remaining family
then apparently moved away from the village as there is no further
mention in the records until we get to the 1871
census, we then find ..............
Son George, aged 29 married to Mary aged 30 working as a Groom
/ Coachman, they have twin boys George and William. Their place
of residence is given as the Roe Buck Yard. (public house attachment
on the corner main st.) Brother William (groom) is also mentioned
living in the village with wife Phoebe, they have one son also
named William aged 1. Finally we have, possibly at the grocery
shop in Church street daughter Sarah and her father John, now
widowed aged 70.

William was having difficulty finding employment
as a groom in Kirkby Mallory and had registered as unemployed
in the 1881 census. Due to the neccesity to find work he was
obliged to leave the village and there is no further mention
of the family in the following census returns. |
